Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

  • Jury Still Out - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We bought the 2005 Laredo 4x4 with a V8 engine. The gas cost is unbelievable! I didnt think it would be this bad. I cant seem to get the mpg up to more than 14.7. Otherwise, the car is fun to drive and handles well. Its very roomy and comfortable.

  • Weird check engine light situations - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Every other week the check engine light goes on, either I have a catalytic converter issue or it is just a short circuit. A lot of dangerous blind spots. I would fire the guys who designed the car, it looks like cheap plastic stuff. Nice to drive, even though wind noise unbearable when going over 60 mph.

Handles great. Smoothest riding SUV Ive been in. The V6 is a bit sluggish but the fuel economy is good for a SUV. Everyone that sees it loves it. Tons of standard features.

This is my first Grand Cherokee, and I have not been overly impressed. The build is very good, not one rattle or squeak, however the transmission is very slow to change gears when you need to down shift. The 3.7l V6 has adequate power but would be nice if it had about 20 more horses. During the first 6 months, it spent a week in the shop due to check engine light, had to replace fuel rail and air conditioner compressor. Fuel mileage is about 23mpg on the highway, not bad for this size vehicle. Back seat is cramped for adults. Standard radio fair, should have upgraded to better unit. Not sure I would consider this vehicle again. Weak transmission.

Its fun to drive and has enough power to keep up with most cars on the road. The only slight thing Ive had was the air bag light came on a few times and then stopped.

  • Blind Spots - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

The Grand Cherokee performs and handles well with a comfortable seat. The main con that I have found with this vehicle is that even when you turn to check your blind spot when switching lanes, the blind spot is so bad that you still cant see! If forces you to rely on your mirrors. I would not put a child in my vehicle because of the fact that you should not rely solely on mirrors when driving. I suggest that Jeep go back to its original design so that I can see when I change lanes.

  • No More Grand Cherokees for me! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The first major problem was the rear differential. At 62,000 it was toast. OK, my fault. Never had it serviced. Periodic maintenance "forces" you into Schedule B (any driving in freezing weather) which includes changing front rear axle fluid every 12,000 miles at $140 an axle, etc. Never serviced any of the 5 Subs either. The Nav sys display has quit working. It has come on a couple of times, then off again. Dealer says to replace it. Today it goes into local shop. Sometimes it just stalls. Now the elect. fan just runs for no reason. Engine temp OK. AC went last year. Has new compressor. Now it has quit. This is the SUV from hell!

  • 5.7L Hemi 4x4 Limited W/ NAV - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Amazing “sleeper” SUV. The Hemi V8 throws me back into the seat like I was driving my S2000, but with room for the road. It blazes up to speed and is great passing confidence on long steep grades. Great interior and electronics (e.g., integrated Bluetooth phone, 6-disk CD in an amazing stereo, Serious satellite radio, Nav system) and so many gadgets. Great undercover muscle car.

  • They Finally Did It! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Just got my Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 Hemi (not under glass). This is as close to the perfect SUV as it gets. For starters, the exterior styling is pretty much non-descript and totally inoffensive. The inside is very comfortable. Seats are firm but not too firm. Lots of interior room. Has Bluetooth so your cellphone automatically kicks in and becomes handsfree in the car. The GPS and Sirius work like a charm. Nice oversize console box that can actually hold something useful besides three receipts and a paper clip. The Hemi is a beautiful thing. It is smooth, has a nice purr to it and gets your butt from 0-60 in 6.9 seconds. The ride is better than any SUV I have been, and thats saying a lot

  • Pretty good so far - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is my first Jeep. It is fun to drive - plenty of power. Love the warm seats. We took it to the beach in Pismo and it performed great in the sand. The backup alert/warning system is handy except when I have the swing out bike rack on the back which causes the warning sound as soon as you go in reverse. The drivers seat automatically moves forward and backwards when you turn the car on and off. The passenger area shrinks when the seat moves backward. One time, a passenger in the back got her foot stuck when the seat moved backwards. My one peeve is the rear-view mirror is too low such that it blocks out much of the right side of the windshield.
